LEO Sayer returns to the Redlands, this time performing at the Redland Performing Arts Centre on Friday, March 20.
His performance is part of his Restless Years Tour, started in January and including regional and city centres until April 12. To Leo, the tour represents the best of his original and latest hits, primarily those on his latest album Restless Years, released earlier this year.
Leo performed at RedFest a few years ago and said he was looking forward to the return, describing his first visit to the Redlands as an "absolute ball".
"The crowd really rocked and I have some zany photos of that time. It's just marvellous to bring your music to the people, instead of them bussing to the city. There's a different vibe at regional centres," he said.
Leo attributes his success primarily to his songwriting ability and his good fortune in working with talented people. He has 25 Top 10 international hits, five Top 10 albums and writing credits for Roger Daltrey, Cliff Richard, Dolly Parton and Tina Turner. Hit singles include The Show Must Go On, One Man Band, Long Tall Glasses, Moonlighting, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You, Thunder in My Heart and More Than I Can Say. His most recent UK number one hit is a remix of Thunder in My Heart.
"Working with these people has been a great leg up and recording with them has been a good template for my career. I have worked with the best and it has rubbed off."
Leo has a VIP package including a meet and greet before the show and will sign CDs afterwards. Tickets are $69.90 ($99 for the VIP package) and can be booked on 3829 8131, at the box office or through rpac.com.au
Experience accumulates. I don't think music is about the latest young thing. Think about the greats and they just get better. My early recordings are still good on radio and that helps with longevity. I like to think at 66, I can still be a player. The echo of the early days goes on," he said.
Leo performs with bass player Mitch Cairns, drummer Adrian Vili, guitarist Danny Spencer and Bill Risby on keys.
"I have three quarters of the album players on stage. It's a nice collection. Every song is a chapter in a book and the feel dictates the song," he said.
