Redlands Tigers completed season 2014/15 last Saturday night at the Redlands Sporting Club with a gala presentation of awards night.
Former Eastern Districts old boy and current over 40s player Evan Bancroft was the MC for the night and kept the crowd of 150 entertained with his brief recollections of his playing days at Easts while overseeing the success of the night.
The incoming chairman of Cricket Australia, David Peever, was the guest speaker. David, also a former player at Easts, responded very well to a ‘Q and A’ session led by well known old boy, current over 40s player and former administrator of RCI Ray Bubke.
The club was delighted to have David attend the evening and wishes him well as he takes on his new role in October.
The Club Person of the Year award for 2014/15 was presented to Darrin Wallis for his valuable contribution to Redlands Cricket throughout the season. As a player, fifth grade captain, selector, coach of the Taverner’s team and junior representative on the RCI committee, Darrin has played an important role working with the five affiliate junior clubs in the Redlands area. This is an important role and the club is indebted to Darrin for work in this area.
The Best and Fairest – MVP award this year went to Liam Hope-Shackley. Liam joined the club this season and quickly set about establishing a spot in second grade. With a very good eye and a clean hitter of the ball, Liam was often called upon to win several close games for his team. His bowling was another asset and it was great that he was rewarded for his efforts as he finished the season in first grade.
It was a great sight to see a large group of batsmen who had scored centuries and bowlers who had taken five wickets or more, rewarded for their valuable contributions throughout the season.
Awards were presented to players in each grade for batting and bowling averages and most promising players. Congratulations to all award winners throughout the night.
The night also gave the club an opportunity to thank its wonderful group of volunteers and valued financial supporters, particularly our major sponsor the Redlands Sporting Club.
The club is also grateful for the sponsorship support directed by Gail and Dale Fowler. Without the input of our sponsors we would lack the funds required to showcase the players and facilities that we have at Redlands Cricket.
Special thanks to the staff at the Redland City Bulletin for allowing the club to showcase cricket in the Redlands.
A reminder to all players, life members and supporters that the club’s AGM will be held on Monday, August 10 at 7pm at the club house at Wellington Point.
