The former president of the Queensland Bar Association described Jarrod Bleijie as an "inexperienced and under-educated, and, in my view, incompetent Attorney-General", who headed "insidious attacks" against the legal profession.
Peter Davis, who resigned as head of the Bar Association in June 2014, following escalating disputes between the Newman Government and the legal community, said there was an "intolerable and matter-of-fact attack upon the profession and the courts" during the Newman Government's term.
Mr Davis made the remarks in a speech made to the Bar Association on Wednesday night, after he was awarded life membership.
He said he realised "too late" that "confidentiality meant nothing to the Attorney-General".
"Between November 2013 when I became president and 13 June 2014, the date of my resignation, I resisted the government as forcefully as I could in private consultations with this Attorney-General," he said in speech notes seen by Fairfax Media.
"But, during the process which led to the appointment of a magistrate as Chief Justice of Queensland, it became evident to me that the Attorney-General had, to use Jim Thomas' expression, blabbed about my conversations with him to that magistrate.
"I realised too late that confidentiality meant nothing to that Attorney-General. I realised that speaking with him achieved little more than allowing him to clothe his decisions with the false claim of proper consultation when, in reality, there had been none.
"I realised that dealing with him was therefore inappropriate.
"For those reasons, I resigned."
Mr Davis said if the former government's attacks had continued, "the result must have been a weakening of the authority of the Court as the judicial arm of the government".
He questioned why the Association, "appeared at all at the Chief justice's welcoming ceremony".
"Once it was known, as it was, well before the ceremony, that the judges themselves were refusing to participate in a ceremony to welcome a man whose appointment we opposed, why were our officers there?" he said.
"Why were we literally standing up for the one man whose appointment we had actively opposed, rather than supporting the 25 judges who had refused to attend as a matter of principle?"
Mr Davis said the "crisis in the composition of the Supreme Court is not behind us and will not be for a long time".
His comments came before retiring Supreme Court Justice Alan Wilson said he was "driven to say something" about Tim Carmody's leadership as Chief Justice at his valedictory ceremony on Thursday.
Justice Wilson said the Chief Justice, who was in Papua New Guinea attending a conference, had removed himself from trial division sittings or "judge work" in favour of taking a more public-relations role for the court, which he said placed "a significant extra burden" on the other judges.
He also accused Justice Carmody of privately referring to his judicial colleagues as "snakes" and "scum" while publicly calling for judges to "maintain civility and courtesy".
After first declining to comment when approached by Fairfax Media on Thursday, Mr Bleijie distributed a statement about Mr Davis's comments on Friday morning.
"I will not be commenting on the speech given by Peter Davis QC other than to say that I understand that Mr Davis was a regular attendee and promoter of Labor Party fundraisers and has spoken at length at the left wing think tank," he said.
"His comments should be seen through that prism."
The current president of the Bar Association has been contacted regarding Mr Davis' comments.
