The following is a list of airliner accidents involving possible or rumoured pilot suicide, compiled by the Aviation Safety Network. General aviation aircraft are not included.
March 24, 2015 – 150 fatalities
A Germanwings Airbus A320 crashed into a mountain while on a flight from Barcelona, Spain to Düsseldorf, Germany. Preliminary information from the chief Marseilles prosecutor in France indicates that the captain was locked out of the flight deck and the co-pilot directed the airplane to a continuous descent towards mountainous terrain. March 8, 2014 - 239 fatalities
ASN also includes Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370 which went missing after leaving Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing with 239 people on board. All contact was lost 40 minutes into the flight; all people on board are presumed dead. The investigation continues. "It is assumed to have crashed in the Indian Ocean. Experts have theorised that the accident may be the result of a deliberate action by one of the pilots, but the accident is still under investigation, also pending on finding the wreckage," the ASN report says.
November 29, 2013 – 33 fatalities
LAM Flight 470 entered a rapid descent while en route between Maputo and Luanda and crashed in Namibia. Preliminary investigation results indicate that the accident was intentional. The captain made control inputs that directed the plane to the ground, shortly after the first officer had left the flight deck. (ASN Accident Description)
The Air Safety Network (ASN) reports no other events between November 1999 and June 2012.
Prior to that, it lists one case of a commercial pilot who committed suicide on a Canadair RegionalJet plane on the ground in July 2012, and seven crashes where pilots were confirmed or suspected of causing 383 deaths, including 217 fatalities on October 31, 1999, when Egypt Air Flight 990, a Boeing 767, went down after departure from New York's JFK airport. Suggestions of a deliberate act were disputed by Egyptian authorities at the time.
