HEAVY overnight rain has flooded parts of Mount Cotton, Redland Bay, Victoria Point and Sheldon with water over the road at Woodlands Drive near the Sirromet Winery.
All lanes are affected and Queensland Transport is warning motorists to expect delays.
This is how the morning unfolded for Redland motorists.
8:30am: Avalon Road at Sheldon, where a 4WD was stuck in floods, closes to traffic.
8am: Seqwater advises that due to rainfall in the catchment Leslie Harrison Dam has commenced spilling and due to high inflows into the dam, outflows have increased. Caution downstream is advised due to possible downstream release hazards. This means that if you are downstream of the dam you should exercise caution near waterways and floodplains as you may encounter fast flowing or deep water that could be a safety hazard.
7:45am: report of traffic crash at intersection of Woodlands Drive and Mt Cotton Road, Mt Cotton
7:45am: Translinks advises changes to bus stops. Route 280 and 281 buses in both directions are on diversion due to localised flooding in Redland Bay.
As a result the following stops will be missed:
- Serpentine Creek Road near Christopher Street, Redland Bay
- Serpentine Creek Road near Oakland Avenue, Redland Bay
- Phillip Street near Wilkie Street, Redland Bay
- McWilliam Street near Phillip Street, Redland Bay
- Torquay Road East near Wilkie Street, Redland Bay
- Collins Street near Donald Road, Redland Bay
- School of Arts Road near Fielding Road, Redland Bay
Commuters should go to the following stops to catch their bus:
- Shanahan Street near Michael Street, Redland Bay
- Rusbrook Street near Oakland Avenue, Redland Bay
- Queen Street near School of Arts Road, Redland Bay
7:35am: Emergency services at Avalon Road, Sheldon, after reports a 4WD drive was stuck in a creek. It appears occupants are out.
7:30am: Fire officers called to Avalon Road and reports of a car stuck in water. Police are warning drivers to stay out of flooded creeks and not drive through flooded roads.
6:35am: Power was out on all southern bay islands with Energex recording about 160 homes without electricity at Karragarra Island; 355 at Lamb Island; 1779 on Macleay Island; 36 on Perulpa Island; and 519 on Russell Island.
6:05am: The rain brought trains on the Cleveland line to a halt between Lota and Thorneside just after 6am and buses were scheduled to take passengers into Brisbane and Cleveland.
6:00am: The Bureau of Meteorology recorded 129mm of rain at Carbrook overnight with Mount Cotton getting 89mm. Burbank had 51mm; Capalaba 40; Chandler 48; Ransome 69; Manly 73 and Wynnum 85mm.
The Bureau said the rain was expected to continue throughout the day with isolated showers late this afternoon.
