Queensland's corruption watchdog has charged a Gold Coast man and woman with money laundering and fraud as part of an investigation targeting bogus investment schemes.
The Crime and Corruption Commission will allege the pair's financial management of a company, Tropical Point Pty Ltd, cost investers about $700,000 in 2011.
The pair are the first people charged as part of the CCC's Operation Lima Violin II, which commenced in June 2014 to crack down on allegedly fraudulent cold-call investment companies on the Gold Coast.
The body will allege a 32-year-old Upper Coomera woman and a 35-year-old Helensvale man were involved in the financial management of Tropical Point Pty Ltd between February 2011 and June 2011.
The investigation revealed investors in the company collectively lost $700,000.
The CCC will further allege the pair was employed by a private investigator on the Gold Coast at the time of the alleged offences.
Both were charged with one count each of fraud and money laundering on Wednesday and served with notices to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 26.
Operation Lima Violin II remains an ongoing CCC investigation.
