A HUSBAND and wife team from Capalaba Rotary Club travelled to India earlier this year as part of the organisation's efforts to eradicate polio.
Col and Beryl Sutcliffe marked Rotary's 110th anniversary and 30 years since the group started its PolioPlus program with a trip to the subcontinent to volunteer for National Immunisation Day.
Col and Beryl helped administer polio drops to a share of more than 174 million children aged under five.
They spent days before the drops rallying residents in villages and slums to bring their children for immunisation.
Polio remains endemic in only three countries: Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria.
"We're so close." Col said.
"However, until we eliminate polio, children everywhere are at risk from this disease. Rotary, along with our partners, will work hard to ensure that the world's most vulnerable children are kept safe from polio.
"Capalaba Rotary, with the support of the Redlands community, makes a substantial donation each year from proceeds of the club's annual Christmas Trailer Raffle," he said.
