A Brisbane-based company that rents camping vans to tourists from its offices around the globe has for many years been criticised for the offensive slogans that adorn its vans.
Mostly, the slogans denigrate and objectify women and girls.
Many incite violence and encourage rape culture.
Dozens of complaints to the Advertising Standards Board have been upheld.
Last July, there was a public opinion groundswell against one van slogan in particular.
More than 127,000 Australians signed a petition calling for the company to remove its misogynist slogans.
Greens Senator Larissa Waters moved an Australian Senate resolution, which passed unanimously, condemning the company.
Faced with such huge community action, the company agreed to remove the offensive slogan immediately and to remove other offensive slogans within six months.
They haven't removed all the slogans.
When I sent some of the slogans to this newspaper last year, the newspaper refused to print them, presumably because they are so offensive.
If the slogans are too offensive to be printed by a newspaper, surely they are too offensive to be driven around our cities.
Other vans have drawings of women in sexual poses.
The slogans need to go and they need to go now.
Surely at least one level of government local, state or federal can act to have these horrible signs removed.
Women, men and children rallied in Brisbane last Saturday calling for this action.

THE Redland City Bulletin supports this campaign and hopes the goals are achieved to have these offensive slogans and images removed. The Bulletin does not condone the degradation or exploitation of anyone for any agenda, particularly commercial. The slogans are offensive and particularly should not be seen by children. The Bulletin will not publish them. - ED
