I am concerned and wish to complain over the unsafe road conditions around the Redlands.
I was involved in an accident recently on Main Road, Wellington Point, due to a large amount of gravel covering 80 per cent of the road and a pothole.
At 2.50pm, I was leaving Wellington Point after enjoying the beautiful views and day, on my little 50cc moped.
I saw this gravel on the road as I was approaching a road island and I knew I was not able to avoid it as I would hit the gutter on the left, hit the island on the right or head into oncoming traffic.
I was going 40km at the time and as I went over the gravel, my bike slipped and fell over. I was thrown off and landed about five metres from the gravel.
I ended up with grazing, bruises and swelling. My scooter was damaged. I had just replaced a new panel which was the last to finish the project of doing up the scooter, but all panels were damaged, both mirrors broken and a part ripped off the exhaust.
I was taken to hospital by ambulance, and a friendly neighbour, Alan, assisted the paramedics and also looked after my scooter until I could organise for someone to pick it up.
I couldn't work on the Friday and struggled getting up from a chair and going to bed.
I have contacted the Redlands City Council to report the incident and where the problem part of the road was.
They sent someone down the following day to sweep and repair the road.
I am seeking damages only for the repair of my bike and the day's pay I had lost.
Have written to the Redlands mayor and sent photos. I was lucky enough that a passerby took photos of the road, where I ended up and my damaged scooter.
I am very grateful for the assistance of neighbours and also people who were driving by for their assistance.
As a bike rider, I don't feel safe on our roads.
Council should get onto spending time and money repairing roads for all means of transport.
