REDLAND City will play host to more than 100 US Touch players, coaches, medical and support staff as the visiting US teams arrive in Redlands on Saturday for a three-day training camp.
The visiting contingent will stay locally in Cleveland and will train at the Redlands Touch Association grounds in Long Street, before heading off to Coffs Harbour for the Touch World Cup at the end of the month.
As part of their preparation, US teams will play specially selected Redlands men's open, women's open, mixed open, men's 30 and men's 40 teams in demonstration matches on Sunday, April 26.
The tour is a major coup for Redlands Touch and is thanks to the efforts of life member and tour organiser Pat Carroll.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for many of our players, particularly our younger players, to experience international level Touch locally," Mr Carroll said.
The American players are drawn from all parts of the USA, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Washington, New York, Miami and Dallas.
"The USA players are excited about the training camp and are treating their Redlands stop-over as a highlight of their tour."
Demonstration games will commence at the Cleveland Showground at 2pm on Sunday, culminating in the men's open game at 3.40pm.
The games will be followed by a barbecue function and an official welcome by mayor Karen Williams.
Entry is free and all Redlands residents are encouraged to join in and cheer on the local sides.
