THE Victoria Point Sharks Football Club has put community football back on the map in the Redlands with an emphatic first round QAFA (A) victory over the Ipswich Eagles.
A crowd more than 300 at the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club was treated to an old fashioned football feast with brutal physical encounters matched with skilful passages of play.
Former Redland Sharks junior Nick Proud claimed the day's first piece of history, kicking the clubs first goal with dashing run down the outer wing, finishing with a beautiful drop punt from 45 metres out.
Trailing the Eagles at half time, an eight goal third quarter put the home side in front, a lead that wouldn't be lost again, setting up the 16-8-104 to 13-7-85 win.
Training continues each Tuesday and Thursday night from 6.15pm at Ern Dowling Oval 2.
The Sharks next home game is against Carrara on Saturday, May 2.
