VICTORIA Point man Kieron Douglass is set to embark on a 200 kilometre run to raise $10,000 for Lady Cilento Children's Hospital's new program Juiced TV.
Juiced TV provides sick children in hospital the opportunity to produce and host a TV show which then gets broadcast throughout the hospital on their bedside patient entertainment systems.
On May 28, Kieron will put his body on the line and run from the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast in an effort to raise money for the interactive program.
He said the program was a great outlet for sick children, especially the ones who were terminally ill or had cancer, who spent a lot of time in the hospital.
Kieron, who is a motivational speaker, said he may not be able to cure cancer or solve world hunger, but he could run to raise money to help sick children.
"A friend of mine is the founder of Juiced TV and she put up a Facebook post. I went to bed and I could not sleep trying to find a concept of how I can help," he said.
"At 1.30am I sat up and thought 'I am going to run'."
He said preparations for the 200km run included trail running with some of Australia's best ultra runners and strength training.
"I have been doing 60km runs once a week by running to the city and back," he said.
"I deliberately don't take my phone with me because I know I will be tempted to call someone to pick me up.
"I know I have to just soldier on because I am doing this for the kids."
Kieron said he always had a passion for helping children and found inspiration through them.
"People come up to me and say 'you are so inspiring' but it is these kids who are inspiring me," he said.
"I don't look at what I am doing as inspirational because these kids are battling cancers and that is one of the hardest things the kids can overcome."
