JOYCE Beechey, of Thornlands, turned 90 on Sunday, but received a big birthday surprise at her aqua aerobics class to celebrate the occasion.
She has been attending the aqua aerobics class for 10 years at the Cleveland Aquatic Centre.
Centre manager Leanne Clarke said once she realised Joyce was turning 90 she had to throw her a big surprise party.
"She comes in twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and she is just a beautiful lady," she said.
"She is always happy and never complains."
Joyce said she hasn't had this much excitement since her wedding day.
"This is my big bash and Sunday is my little bash," she said.
Joyce loved going to aqua aerobics each week because "everybody is very friendly and they are a lovely bunch of people".
Originally from Manchester, England Joyce said she "loved getting out with the girls and having a bit of fun."
Aqua aerobics instructor Faye Keogh said Joyce was always happy, laughing and smiling.
"If there is something she can't do, she just starts dancing," she said.
