NORTH Stradbroke Island's fledgling Rural Fire Brigade has received its first firefighting vehicle.
The converted Toyota, codenamed "North Stradbroke Island 41" arrived in Dunwich on Tuesday morning from the mainland.
The light attack vehicle is equipped with a tank capable of holding 500 litres of water, a pump, hoses, radios and other equipment.
The truck will be officially handed over to the brigade in October, but secretary Jim Hemsley said it would be used in the meantime to help train volunteers.
"We'll take the truck to each of the townships and get them to run a few tanks, take it off the bitumen," he said.
Almost 50 islanders have signed on as volunteers for the brigade since a meeting unanimously voted in favour of establishing the service in August last year.
