REDLAND Bay residents have been given an ironclad guarantee they will be connected to the national broadband network before July next year.
Bowman MP Andrew Laming said NBNCo has promised to include an extra 4800 homes in Redland Bay and 1600 in Mount Cotton in the next 18-month rollout phase, which started in January.
Mr Laming said the extra 6400 homes would be part of the fibre-to-the-node rollout, due for completion in June 2016, coinciding with the next federal election.
However, Mr Laming said it was unlikely the rollout in Redland Bay or Mount Cotton would start this year and it would not include homes south of Serpentine Creek Road.
"By June, this year, there will be a new three-year plan released giving more certainty until mid 2018," he said.
Mr Laming said connections would be rolled out from the exchange, at 306 Colburn Avenue, Victoria Point, to the southern suburbs.
But, he said, Victoria Point residents would not be included despite being closest to the exchange, which was already at capacity and not coping with extra demand.
