Wynnum Manly Seagulls will play their second annual Indigenous Recognition Match on North Stradbroke Island against the Souths Logan Magpies, in Round 13 action of the Intrust Super Cup on Sunday, June 7.
As an Indigenous Recognition game, the free event will acknowledge the Quandamooka people.
"We really are pleased that the Wynnum Manly Seagulls have once again chosen North Stradbroke Island to host this event and that they acknowledge our people and our land in such a public way," Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation chief executive Cameron Costello said.
A Deadly Choices campaign will be endorsed throughout the weekend, promoting a message of the need to tackle and improve health concerns among the local indigenous population. Healthy eating food demonstrations and dental and health vans will be on site for the duration of the event.
Families can enjoy free entry, rock climbing walls and jumping castles around the grounds.
Ferry tickets can be pre- purchased through the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club and Seagulls Football Club at a discounted rate in the lead-up to the event.
The day's action begins at 9am with the U7 Rugby League Brisbane Cluster Day, followed at 10am by the Deadly Choices Family Fun Day.
At 1.15pm the indigenous presentations begin, with country and traditional dancers in the lead-up to the Intrust Super Cup kick-off at 1.40pm for the Wynnum Manly Seagulls v Souths Logan Magpies match.
The Wynnum Manly Seagulls have joined forces with a number of groups to bring the event to fruition, including the Deadly Choices Campaign by the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health, the Yulu-Burri-Ba Health Services, Redlands City Council, the Quandamooka people, Stradbroke Ferries and the Straddie Sharks Football Club.
