A Corrimal man has confessed to sexually abusing the six-year-old son of a woman he befriended online, a court has heard.
Anthonio Scavera, 29, was babysitting the child one evening in December 2013 when he took advantage of the fact they were alone and molested the boy, first performing fellatio on the child then digitally penetrating him.
Scavera videoed the incident, which ended with him masturbating over the child.
The boy's mother discovered what Scavera had done after overhearing a conversation between him and her son later that evening when she returned home.
She said the contents of the conversation prompted her to kick Scavera out of the house immediately and ask her son what had happened.
The boy told her Scavera had touched him, however the woman did not report the matter to police at the time.
Officers only became aware of it when they uncovered the video of the sexual encounter on Scavera's iPad while searching his home on unrelated matters in December last year.
As well as the video of him and the boy, Scavera had a further 117 videos and 479 pictures depicting child pornography - 18 of which fell into the most severe category for such material.
Police documents tendered to Port Kembla Local Court on Wednesday said Scavera and the boy's mother met through Facebook and became friends, leading to Scavera spending time at the woman's home.
"She was aware the offender was immature and she felt sorry for him," the documents said.
"She indicates that the offender became friends with her son and they often played computer games together."
The sexual abuse occurred one evening while Scavera was babysitting the boy after his mother and her partner had gone out for the evening.
During an interview with police in February this year, Scavera admitted to performing the sexual acts and recording them over the space of a few hours.
Scavera was remanded in custody to be sentenced next month.
