Cleveland Point could be set to host another band of swarthy pirates, with confirmation this week that Redland City Council is in talks with location scouts for the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film, On Stranger Tides.
Councillor for Cleveland, Craig Ogilvie, said there had been “a few sniffs but nothing formal at this stage”.
“The Aussie dollar is an issue at the moment, but I’m sure they’d be welcome if they came, and I’m equally sure there will be plenty of young ladies happy to house Johnny Depp if it happens,” Cr Ogilvie said.
The wildly successful Pirates of the Caribbean franchise stars Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, and Australian Geoffrey Rush is set to reprise his role as Captain Hector Barbossa in the new instalment.
The plot sees the pair head off on another adventure, this time in search of the fountain of youth.
BBC star Ian McShane will join the cast as notorious pirate and new nemesis Blackbeard, while Spanish beauty Penelope Cruz has been confirmed to play Blackbeard’s daughter and Depp’s love interest.
Stars of the first three films, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightly (Will Turner and Elizabeth Swan), will not return for a fourth film, reportedly saying their characters’ storylines are at an end.
Filming is due to start in Hawaii in June, for a release date in May, 2011.
Last September Cleveland Point was the set for the most recent Narnia film, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
