Cultural activities and traditional dances will feature at the NAIDOC Week celebrations planned for Cleveland next week.
NAIDOC Week, this year held from July 5 to 12, is a national event that acknowledges the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Highlighting the strong Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander spiritual connection to land and sea, this year's NAIDOC theme is 'We All Stand On Sacred Ground Learn, Respect, Celebrate'.
Organised by Capalaba's Yulu-Burri-Ba Aboriginal Corporation for Community Health in conjunction with a range of community groups, the celebrations in Cleveland will also include a barbecue, face painting, community group and educational stalls, representatives from the Deadly Choices health campaign and more.
Yulu-Burri-Ba community liaison officer Ken Munro said the event aimed to draw the community together.
"It's about everyone getting together and understanding that we are all here to help each other and to know that our ndigenous culture is strong here in the Redlands," he said.
The event, with free entry, will be held from 10am to 2pm next Tuesday, July 7 at Cleveland District State High School (entry via Haggup Street).
