STUDENTS at Redlands Special School helped improve their school environment last Friday when they helped plant 60 trees and groundcovers as part of the Planet Ark Schools National Tree Day.
Prep teacher and Schools Tree Day organiser Noela Beattie said the students all had fun helping to beautify the school grounds with plants donated by Redlands IndigiScapes Centre.
"We have a lovely, natural environment with a population of koalas and it's important for children to get involved with maintaining our environment and being responsible for keeping it beautiful and helping maintain the ecosystem," she said.
"For our students, they learn about participating and sharing.
"They also learn about what trees provide for our environment, such as shelter for animals, oxygen for us and beautifying the the school."
Ms Beattie said the school participated in the event each year, helping to enhance the grounds for students, staff, visitors and wildlife. National Schools Tree Day is an annual event held in conjunction with National Tree Day and aims help children learn about caring for the natural environment.
