The man charged with manslaughter over last year’s fatal car crash in Alexandra Hills will be sentenced in December.
Troy Anthony Weston, 41, is due to appear before Brisbane Supreme Court on December 15 to be sentenced for one count of manslaughter.
Prosecutors will allege the Cleveland man was behind the wheel of a stolen car that passed through a red light and smashed into another vehicle at the Finucane and Allenby roads intersection on August 21 last year.
The sole occupant of the other car, 65-year-old Redland Bay woman Rhonda Lofting, died at the scene when the Holden Commodore slammed into her drivers’ side door.
Weston has been in custody since then, except for a brief stint in hospital on the day of the crash.
He had been expected to face a trial later this year or early in 2016, but the Supreme Court heard on Friday that the proceedings would change to a sentencing hearing.
Justice Ann Lyons set the hearing date for mid-December. She anticipated the severity of the charge meant sentencing would take up to two-and-a-quarter hours.
Weston was remanded in custody until the sentencing date. He has yet to enter a plea, which he will make either on the day of the sentencing or during an earlier arraignment hearing.
Two of Ms Lofting’s sons sat in the public gallery as the matter was mentioned.
