PREMIER Annastacia Palaszczuk has put her money where her mouth is and approved $23,000 in funds for the annual Bayside Blues Festival, held in Capalaba.
The money, from Arts Queensland’s Projects and Programs Fund, will go to Capalaba Rotary Club, which organised the inaugural festival last year.
Ms Palaszczuk said the fund invested in vibrant, exciting, diverse and accessible arts and cultural experiences.
The funding came after a push from Capalaba MP Don Brown, who wrote to the premier asking for funding for the event.
"It is fantastic that the Palaszczuk government can make such a significant contribution towards this year's Blues Fest," he said.
"I am looking forward to enjoying the day with many other Redland residents at this great free event."
This year’s lineup will incoude a soloist and six bands to play on September 12 from 1pm to 9pm at the Capalaba Regional Park.
Also this year, organisers have invited a roving blues band to perform throughout the crowds in between acts.
Organisers said they listened to requests from last year’s crowd and redesigned bars and food stalls at the grounds.
The first Bayside Blues Festival attracted more than 1000 people to Capalaba Regional Park in October last year.
Six bands kicked off that event, which raised funds for Capalaba Rotary Club.
Students from schools across the city warmed up the audience performing in the Battle of the High School Blues Competition.
To coincide with the festival, the neighbouring Capalaba Junior Rugby League Club had its end-of-year trophy presentation and hosted a fireworks display.
Capalaba Regional Park,on Pittwin Road North, has the largest children's playground in Redlands and includes a liberty swing for disabled people.
Bunnings staff will also be in the park on the day with face painters for the kids.
Entry to the festival is a gold coin at the gate. No food or drink is allowed to be taken into the venue as there will be a full bar and food stalls.
