INTREPID explorer, navigator and documentary film maker Mal Leyland will travel to the Grand View Hotel to share stories from an adventurous life at noon on Wednesday, September 23.
Leyland and his brothers brought the outback into people’s homes at a time when it was still considered remote and forbidding.
The Leyland brothers are credited for starting a four-wheel drive revolution and creating the industry that has been embraced by Australia’s nomads, grey haired and otherwise.
Mike and Mal Leyland had numerous adventures, culminating in their ground-breaking TV series, Ask the Leyland Brothers. They became Aussie television icons.
Mal Leyland takes us through his life, from his 'ten-pound-Pom' immigrant childhood, adventuring with Mike through outback Australia, the brothers' sometimes stormy relationship, their dramatic rise to success as filmmakers, their financial losses and Mal's triumph over cancer to his ongoing travels with his wife, Laraine.
The first regular television series, Ask the Leyland Brothers, ran on Australian television from 1976 to 1980, and again from 1983 to 1984.
Mal will share his memoires at the literary event. The cost is $45 pp (GV members $40) and includes a two-course lunch and a glass of wine on arrival. Book on 3286 1002 or email reception@gvh.com.au.
