Jack Watts will head into the off-season on the outer at Melbourne after the forward was dropped for the Demons' final game of the season against Greater Western Sydney.
Watts, 24, has been named in the forward pocket of the Casey Scorpions team that will take on Essendon in a VFL final at Port Melbourne on Sunday morning, a match which will begin 90 minutes before the Melbourne match at Etihad Stadium. The Scorpions said that they would find out on Saturday whether Watts would be held over as one of the Demons' emergencies, or whether he would play.
It is the second time Watts has been dropped in what has been an up-and-down season for the much-maligned No. 1 draft pick of 2008. On the first occasion, Watts dropped himself from the senior team ahead of the round seven game against Hawthorn. He returned after just one game at the Scorpions, and has played every game since.
After starring in the Demons' most recent win against Collingwood in round 18, Watts' form has trailed away in recent weeks. He had just 14 disposals in Melbourne's loss to Fremantle last Sunday.
The omission is sure to elicit renewed calls for Watts to find a new club, despite him still having a year to run on his contract at the club.
Melbourne have made four changes, with Neville Jetta (calf) and Jake Spencer (concussion) joining the omitted Watts and Matt Jones as outs. Jay Kennedy-Harris, James Harmes, Angus Brayshaw and debutant Mitch White come into the side.
