It's a tough day on the field when even your own teammates are out to get you.
Jarryd Hayne's fourth outing in the NFL didn't go quite to plan on Monday morning, AEDT, when his San Francisco 49ers took on the might of the Green Bay Packers at the 49ers' Levi's Stadium.
Not only did the 49ers slump to their third straight NFL loss, but one of the few times Hayne touched the ball ended badly when he was taken out by a teammate in the second quarter.
The former Parramatta Eels star had raced 15 yards under a high ball and looked perfectly positioned to take the catch. But, as he kept his eyes on the ball, Hayne's 49ers teammate L.J. McCray crashed into him.
McCray had been so focused on blocking a Packers opponent that he did not see Hayne coming.
"He got hit by his own man," one of the commentators said.
The ball hit Hayne's hand and spilled backwards but, luckily, was recovered by 49ers cornerback Dontae Johnson.
The frustrating moment was one of only three plays for Hayne, including one punt return which produced a seven-yard return. He also took a fair catch on the 49ers' nine-yard line.
There was little Hayne could have done to prevent the spill, unlike during his debut NFL appearance against the Minnesota Vikings at Levi's Stadium last month, when he fumbled the first punt of his career.
The Packers raced away to beat the San Francisco 49ers 17-3.
