West Coast grand final ruckman Callum Sinclair could form part of the exchange for Swans premiership wingman Lewis Jetta, who wants to move to the Eagles..
The Swans have been eager to secure a ruckman and with Mike Pyke poised to retire that preference has assumed greater urgency. They are also in the market for free-agent Brisbane Lions ruckman Matthew Leuenberger.
The Swans have asked about Sinclair as part of the Jetta trade and the Eagles are seriously considering the request.
Sinclair is contracted and the Eagles are keen to keep him but they have also not dismissed the request out of hand and will discuss it internally and with the player.
The Eagles like a ruck-forward acting in support to Nic Naitanui but they also have a range of other options. The most obvious is young ruck Scott Lycett, who was kept out of the side by Sinclair after he had battled osteitis pubis early in the season. The 23-year-old has played 28 games and signed a four-year contract last year.
Fraser McInnes is a 22-year-old forward and ruck who stands 197 centimetres and played seven games this year.
The Eagles also used marking key defender Jeremy McGovern forward and in the ruck in the second half of the grand final – after Sinclair was subbed out – and, with Eric Mackenzie due to return from injury next year, McGovern could be swung forward permanently.
The Eagles are working through options for a trade for Jack Redden from Brisbane, are interested in Hawthorn's Jed Anderson, and have to decide whether to match the free-agency bid to join Geelong by Scott Selwood.
Leuenberger is weighing up between Essendon and Sydney and his decision could obviously impact on any Sinclair trade with Jetta.
