Collingwood president Eddie McGuire announced the re-signing of Scott Pendlebury until the end of 2020 at the Magpies' best-and-fairest count on Friday night.
Pies' captain Pendlebury, 27, had already been contracted for 2016 but his new four-year contract extension will mean he will be a Magpie for 15 years, having been drafted in 2005.
McGuire said the deal was signed on Friday afternoon. "He initiated discussions, conducted them in a business-like but always a gentlemanly fashion, with an eye not only to his future, but also that of the Collingwood football club and his team," McGuire said.
The president said Pendlebury had not wanted to be distracted by being a free agent in 2016. "Scott Pendlebury, our captain, did not want to disrupt a season he sees as being pivotal for the future of our football club."
Pendlebury's manager Jason Sourasis is not AFL-accredited, meaning Pendlebury negotiated without an agent.
"To have our captain step forward and do this is a significant moment for the football club in its modern era," McGuire said.
Pendlebury heads to Bali in the coming days ahead of his wedding next week. "Come back fresh, and lead us to where we want to go," McGuire told the star midfielder.
