REDLAND City Bulletin asked all 29 candidates three questions. Here we publish the responses from the two mayoral candidates. All candidates’ responses are at RedlandCityBulletin.com.au
GREG UNDERWOOD
1) Do you think the current town plan process should start again? Yes.
2) Would you approve more development in existing rural zoned areas? No.
3) How would you create more jobs in the city in the next four years? Council should take bold steps to invest in a new enterprise area for innovative industry – particularly technology and learning.
My vision is to advocate to the state for a master planned and well-marketed employment precinct in Thornlands.
Over time, this would provide secure jobs for some of the 60 per cent of the workforce who work outside our city.
Redlands must be more than just a dormitory suburb if we are to maintain our quality of life and reduce road congestion.
We must stop our long-term fixation with residential building, which adds to the employment problem.
New builds only provide about one-third of needed new jobs.
KAREN WILLIAMS

Submissions are yet to be considered on the City Plan which proposes no significant changes but includes improvements on clarity.
2) Would you approve more development in existing rural zoned areas? I Will approve applications as legally required and directed by State Government, including development that meets the requirements of zones within the city plan and/or demonstrate community benefit e.g. university in rural zone.
3) How would you create more jobs in the city in the next four years?
