The first sod turning of Egret Point at Victoria Point on April 21 represents a positive collaboration between developers and Redland City Council.
Egret Point is a Fiteni development designed for the over 50s, with the first two stages of 21 villas to be finished at the end of 2016/early 2017.
Fiteni Residential Development Manager Vaughn Bowden said Fiteni was proud to have worked with council to create a good outcome for the community and the future residents. He commended Cr Lance Hewlett, who negotiated the preservation of some land, “future proofing” the opportunity for the Department of Main Roads to construct a roundabout.
He also said the development was made more community-friendly as it was being built as a single-storey, in keeping with the demographic and pre-existing style of housing in the area.
Cr Hewlett said the developer had “exceeded expectations” and was meeting a community demand in the area for this type of development.
Mayor Karen Willliams said the development was a good example of a local councillor working hand-in-hand with a developer to create a positive outcome for the local community.
“This sort of housing product is in high demand by an ageing population,” she said.
Situated on 2.4 hectares on the corner of Colburn Avenue and Point O’Halloran Road, Egret Point will feature 63 freehold villas targeted at residents over the age of 50. Design features include hobbless showers (not requiring a step in), wider doorways and plywood bracing behind the walls in the bathrooms to accommodate future installation of grab rails if required. Shared facilities include a 20m heated lap pool, outdoor dining, communal vegetable garden and indoor gymnasium.
The average price is $520,000 in stages one and two. All villas are two bedrooms with two living areas, with an additional outdoor patio and low maintenance yard.
“Egret Point provides a freehold alternative to traditional over 50s’ living. It is tailored for a resident who wants to stay in their local area to live close to friends and family. Many prospective buyers have expressed their interest in reducing yard and home maintenance, and are looking to live in a new home of an appropriate size with high quality finishes,” Mr Bowden said.
