A SMALL fire in an electrical unit sparked the evacuation of the Fairfax Media building in Ormiston on Tuesday morning.
Group managing editor for Queensland and Northern Territory Brad Cooper said the fire occurred at the base of an electrical unit in the printing room.
“Experienced staff immediately cut power to the unit which isolated the fire and prevented further damage,” he said.
The building, which houses staff from the Redland City Bulletin, was cleared when fire alarms automatically activated about 9.20am.
Queensland Fire and Rescue Services attended and assessed the power unit before giving the all-clear to return to the building.
Mr Cooper said no one was injured during the incident.
“The smoke that emanated from the power board was also non-toxic, according to fire service officers, so will not present any health risk to staff,” he said.
“Workplace health and safety is the highest priority for Fairfax Media.
“We spend a high proportion of our time maintaining a safety-first culture at all our sites and planning for unfortunate events such as these to keep our people safe.”
