THE stats tell the story of the success that is Cleveland parkrun during the past 12 months – 52 Saturday events, 1600 individual runners of all ages, and a whopping 215 volunteers.
Saturday’s third anniversary run was no different.
The milestone event attracted an impressive 286 starters supported by a team of volunteers including event director and Cleveland parkrun “founder” Olivia Coop.
As part of Saturday’s pre-run celebrations, she paid tribute to Tim Edwards and Lyn Gilmour who clocked up the “most volunteers” during the last year.
Reflecting on the three years since Cleveland parkrun started in May 2013, Olivia said parkrun was as much fun for the runners as it was for the volunteers – many of who swapped roles from one week to the next.
First across the line on Saturday in a cracking 18 minutes 14 seconds was Marshall Bromwich followed by Thomas Astone and Justin Webb. The speedy Laura McKillop was the first female finisher and 10th overall.
Saturday’s run featured 40 “first-timers” while 53 runners posted personal bests.
