THE sale of the Mount Cotton Driver Training Centre to the RACQ has raised the ire of Redlands MP Matt McEachan, who was a motorcycle instructor at the centre before entering parliament.
He called on Premier Annastacia Palaszckuk to stick to Labor promises and reinvest proceeds from the sale into road infrastructure for Redlands.
Mr McEachan said the government's decision to sell the facility was hypocritical as the ALP was promising to oppose asset sales and was just trying to plug its Budget black hole.
Last month, the RACQ said their proposal to buy the driver training centre for $15million had been approved after a detailed planning and negotiation stage with the state without any initial public consultation.
"It's another example of Labor’s ability to sell Redlanders down the river," he said.
“During the election campaign, Labor categorically said they would not sell assets.
"The Mt Cotton Driver Training Centre is a government-owned asset so tell me how this isn’t an asset sale.
“On top of this, we have the Queensland Treasurer Curtis Pitt suggesting money from speeding fines is being reinvested into the Mount Cotton Driver Training Centre, and the Transport Minister Stirling Hinchcliffe who can’t seem to figure out what’s going on."
