Carlton coach Brendon Bolton is hopeful both Matthew Kreuzer and Levi Casboult will play against Geelong after the pair went through fitness tests on Friday morning at Albert Park, and were subsequently named in the the Blues' 22 late in the afternoon.
Liam Jones has been dropped for Sunday's match despite a solid run of form. Daniel Gorringe also makes way.
Both Kreuzer and Casboult had been marked down for lengthy stints on the sidelines after being injured against Port Adelaide less than a fortnight ago.
Kreuzer was tipped for a four-week absence after tearing the meniscus in his left knee, while Casboult was expected to miss six to eight weeks having fractured the tibia in his left leg.
Bolton said both remained in the hunt to take on Chris Scott's high-flying side.
"They got through a good session this morning and we'll have another run in a day or two and see how we go," Bolton said on Friday.
"It'll be more about jumping and landing and a lot of the specific work that the talls do.
"There's still 48 hours, but we're hopeful. We'll just make an informed decision … based on medical advice and how they're pulling up from the sessions."
Bolton said Casboult's injury wasn't as severe as initially feared.
"We went for a secondary CT scan and it was less of an injury than we thought.
"The first scan revealed a bit more damage, but we had a CT scan that shows more detail.
"I think it's foolish of any club to just lock away a really long amount of time, because you're never totally sure."
The Cats have dropped George Horlin-Smith and Jed Bews, who join Daniel Menzel (soreness) on the outer. Tom Lonergan, Jake Kolodjashnij and Billie Smedts are recalled.
Gold Coast have made five changes for Sunday's match away to West Coast. Captain Gary Ablett returns from his concussion layoff, joining Steven May, Tom Nicholls, Clay Cameron and Aaron Hall as inclusions.
Darcy MacPherson (knee), Sam Day (hip), Daniel Currie (finger), Jarrad Grant (hamstring) and Callum Ah Chee (concussion) will all miss the Domain Stadium clash after joining the Suns' lengthy injury list. Gold Coast are looking for their first win since round three.
The Eagles have recalled Lewis Jetta, while naming youngster Tom Cole to make his debut. Elliot Yeo (quad) and Andrew Gaff (concussion) are out of Adam Simpson's side.
