AN ASSISTANT nurse at Redlands Hospital has been given 24-months’ probation after she stole and used a patient’s bank cards.
Margaret Phillipa Bugeja, aged 53, pleaded guilty to 37 charges of fraud, two charges of stealing by persons in the public service and one of stealing.
She stole a debit and credit card from a patient in the hospital in December and used them in Cleveland, Capalaba, Victoria Point and Thornlands. The patient told police she did not discover the use of the cards until she got home from hospital.
One stealing charge related to property taken from a hardware store in Victoria Point.
A Queensland Health spokesperson said Bugeja was suspended without pay, pending official notification from the police of the finalisation of the court case.
