THE mother of a 23-year-old Birkdale man is proudly paying homage to her son after he single-handedly rescued an unconscious man stuck on the train tracks.
Luke Tyler was waiting for a train on Thursday afternoon when he heard the loud speaker announce the next train was two minutes away.
He stepped towards the track and saw the 50-year-old man lying on the track bleeding profusely from his head.
Mum Kym Tyler said her son, who is a very shy 6'3'', did not hesitate to leap off the platform and desperately drag the man to safety.
"He got him on to the platform with one min to spare before the train came," his proud mum said.
"He called the ambos and the man came around but he didn't know what had happened or where he was.
"He was bleeding a fair bit apparently.
"I guess what has amazed me was that there were other people around and not one came to help Luke with the man.
"Fortunately, Luke was strong enough. I'm sure that man will be forever grateful of Luke's courageousness and strength in saving his life.
"It was not your average Thursday afternoon," Mrs Tyler said.
The man was taken to Redland Hospital.
Luke’s relieved mum said her son did not think the first aid course he did a week ago would come in handy so soon.
