Muddies’ Firsts crashed out against an in-form Caboolture Snakes team at Judy Holt Park last Saturday, 47 - 0.
While Redlands fielded a depleted team due to injuries and player unavailability, head coach Mike King made no excuses, saying that Caboolture was the better team on the day.
One positive was that the score did not reflect the flow of the game. The Muddies’ scrum and lineout were both good, but Caboolture’s line speed was impressive in shutting down the Redlands’ attack and converting their scoring opportunities into points.
This loss drops Redlands’ Firsts to fourth on the Barber Cup competition ladder.
The Muddies’ Seconds continue to lead the Pegg Cup competition with a hard fought 14 – 3 win over their Caboolture opponents.
Victory was built on Redlands’ dominance in the set plays, creating a platform for attacking raids into Caboolture territory. Scorers were: tries to Patrick Purua and Taipari Rikihana, and two conversions to Jay Dowdell.
King is confident that both teams at full strength will perform well in the finals. The Firsts’ play Southern Bay next Saturday at Charlie Buckler Park, 3pm.
The Redlands’ Women’s team lost 10 – 19 to the University of Queensland, but maintain third position on the competition ladder.
Ladies Day
Even the horrible weather didn’t dampen the spirits of the more than 100 ladies who attended Ladies Day – dressed in their finest and enjoying themselves to the theme of “Cocktail Party”. Being held inside the clubhouse added to the atmosphere and fun of the event.
Guests included the Campbell family - Cheyenne, Saxon and dad, Jonas. Cheyenne presented her Australian women’s rugby jersey to the club, which will be proudly displayed.
The Ladies Day Committee of Sue Back, Angela Davis, Belinda Hamilton, Marg Haynes, Kylie Olsen and Kelly Orbell did a great job and are to be congratulated.
