Redlands MP Matt McEachan has slammed Capalapa MP Don Brown for failing to win funding to widen the pinch points along Cleveland-Redland Bay Road in last week's state budget.
The attack on the Capalaba MP came after Mr Brown accused Redland City Mayor Karen Williams of walking away from her election promise of fixing the busy road.
Mr McEachan called on the Palaszczuk government to clarify its position on fixing the road, one of the city's main thoroughfares.
His call came after last week's state budget overlooked funding for the road and an online video in which Mr Brown said the road was a state government priority.
In his video, Mr Brown said the state took early action and last year allocated money to put in traffic lights at the Giles Road intersection black spot at Redland Bay.
"Although this is a state government road, upgrading the road and major intersections along the road were part of the terms and conditions for Shoreline developers," Mr Brown said.
"The only reason the government has stepped in to upgrade Giles Road is because it is a priority - and we can't wait."
Mr Brown also said Redland City Council needed to use plain english to explain how a "market-led" porposal would fix the road.
"The council needs to be clear on how it will keep its election commitment," Mr Brown said.
"The one and only time that type of funding has occurred resulted in a toll road and I don't think Redland drivers want that.
"Mr McEachan's support of the mayor's $100million loan to the state would effectively mean a double tax for redlands ratepayers as they will pay interest on the council's loan and then the interest on the state loan."
Mr McEachan said he was concerned the state didn't seem to know its own plans for the major road, despite Roads Minister Mark Bailey welcoming council's suggestion of financial support from investors and ratepayers.
"Redlanders deserve better, Labor has dudded the whole of Redlands,” Mr McEachan said.
“Redlands, a city of approximately 150,000 residents gets an insultingly small $31.4million over four years in the budget snapshot. It’s an utter disgrace.
“I am in full support of Mayor Karen William’s proposal to loan the Palaszczuk Labor Government $100 million to fix the notorious stretch of road.
“Minister Bailey needs to let residents know if the Redland City Council’s market-led proposal is seriously being considered as he said it is, or is it just a pipe dream as Labor’s Member for Capalaba has now suggested.
“Labor hasn’t committed any new money for any road in Redland City in last week’s Budget. Only the LNP has committed to upgrading Cleveland-Redland Bay Road.
“The Palaszczuk Labor Government has been handed an innovative solution to fix Cleveland Redland Bay Road, they just need to stop playing political games and deliver a solution. Redlanders don’t care who fixes the roads they just want it done.”
