A TEAM of four girls from Bayview State School took out first place in the Brisbane Bayside Regional Readers Cup Challenge held at Ormiston College recently.
The girls participated in the year 5 and year 6 section, competing against 17 other schools.
Moreton Bay Boys’ College (MBBC) year 7 and year 8 teams won first and second place in their year level, while the school’s year 5 and year 6 team came third.
The first placed MBBC team was made up of students Ben Tran, James Ball, Ashwin Chopra, Cooper Westerhuis and Joshua Taylor.
The second group, which placed second by just one and a half points, was made up of Cameron Tyne, Harrison Blackmore, Noah Schrantz and Aaron Hilless.
MBBC library manager and team coach Carol Milne said it was the school’s third win in four years.
“We are very proud of all of our boys,” she said.
“Many of these boys are also quite good writers and story-tellers too.”
Teams from Ormiston College placed second in the year 5 and year 6 category and third in the year 7 and year 8 section.
The State Readers Cup will be held at the State Library of Queensland in Brisbane in September as part of the Brisbane Writers Festival.
