Redland City Mayor Karen Williams has called on Canberra to get south east Queensland moving.
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s federal election, Cr Williams delivered the message as part of the South East Queensland Council of Mayors’ #GetSEQMoving campaign, a push to secure road and public transport infrastructure.
“Better road and rail connections are essential to get the Redlands moving again,’’ Cr Williams said.
“As part of the Get SEQ Moving campaign, we’re asking our federal leaders to address some of the long standing infrastructure needs of this region.
“We’re pushing for key infrastructure priorities like the Eastern Busway and the duplication of the Cleveland rail line. Now is the time for our federal candidates to demonstrate their commitment to supporting our economy and communities.’’
As part of the #GetSEQMoving campaign, Cr Williams also highlighted the need for better access roads to the Gateway and Port of Brisbane as a key issue for Redlands.
The #GetSEQMoving campaign will continue until election day.
Other regional priorities featured in the campaign include addressing the traffic gridlock on the Ipswich and Pacific motorways, North Coast Rail Line duplication and prioritisation of the SEQ section of the Melbourne to Brisbane Inland Rail project.
