MADISON Ayton,15, of Ormiston, is a wizard of a dancer.
She’s won the lead roles of Dorothy and Glinda in the Brisbane City Youth Ballet's performances of The Wizard of Oz over the school holidays.
As soon as these performances are complete, Madi flies to Paris and London to attend summer schools at the prestigious Paris Opera Ballet School and Royal Ballet School - where she has been offered scholarships.
Her mum Barb Ayton said Madi attended dance school five days a week and was tutored by long distance education to keep her studies going.
“This role is her biggest so far,’’ she said.
Ms Ayton said Madi’s hope was that she would be offered a place at the Royal Ballet in London.
“But much depends on their technique and how many junior dancers they want,’’ she said.
Youth ballet artistic director Janine McGrath said The Wizard of Oz made the perfect introduction to classical ballet for all ages with its familiar story, magical special effects, delightful costumes and amazing sets.
“We have heard from so many people that BCYB's version mesmerises the very young as well as the elderly, and that's our goal – to create truly family-oriented professional ballet productions,’’ Ms McGrath said.
"For many years, I have had the opportunity to work with hundreds of professional and amateur dancers.
"I am always amazed at the immense young talent we keep discovering.
“These performers come alive on stage and use their talents to keep audiences enthralled.’’
Children attending the performances will be able to meet the characters from The Wizard of Oz in the Conservatorium Theatre Foyer.
BCYB presents full-scale traditional ballet productions which have been rearranged to make them suitable for young performers.
Tickets may be bought through QTIX 136 246 or by booking online at www.qtix.com.au.
The Wizard of Oz will be on at the Conservatorium Theatre, South Bank, from Friday July 1 to Sunday July 3.
