Former Brisbane Lions rookie Zac O'Brien approached the club recently, querying whether his delisting at the end of last season was related to his much-publicised scuffle with coach Justin Leppitsch.
Fairfax Media revealed in May last year that Leppitsch grabbed O'Brien in the change rooms at half time of a NEAFL game, after the youngster had been disrespectful to Lions reserves coach Shane Woewodin.
Leppitsch later apologised to O'Brien, who was not retained for 2016.
The under-fire coach confirmed that the AFL had become involved this year after O'Brien raised the matter again.
"We spoke to the AFL ... and there's no action coming.from that," Leppitsch told Channel Nine on Monday night.
"I know Zac about a month ago wanted to speak to the club about his exit, thought there was a correlation between that particular incident and the exit.
"We played Zac, and gave him an opportunity, we just felt he wasn't the right fit for the club, but we wished him all the best.
"We only know what we've heard directly from [AFL integrity officer] Brett Clothier and the AFL who've said there's no case to answer."
Leppitsch was again questioned whether he feared for his job given the Lions have just one win from 14 games this season. While the third-year coach remains contracted until the end of next season, there remains speculation that his contract could be severed at year's end if the Lions' form does not improve.
But Leppitsch defended his record at the club, claiming that the Lions were always going to struggle as they rebuilt.
"This will be the youngest year we will have as a football club, and we'll grow from there," he said.
"We're the youngest team in the competition.
"We've debuted 21 players, that's one every two and a half games.
"When you sit the bottom, you sit at the bottom for a reason, and mostly it's due to inexperience, or injury.
"This was always going to happen."
