A VISITOR from Sydney passed on the kindness after her family found a ‘lonely’ bouquet of flowers in the Redlands recently.
The bouquet was one of about 100 dropped off by the Redlands Floral Art Club for people to find and take home.
The initiative is part of International Lonely Bouquet Day.
Mel Navin, of Sydney, said they found the flowers with an ‘adopt me’ sign near picnic tables at Beth Boyd Park in Thorneside.
“We all read the sign and thought ‘what a lovely idea’,” Ms Navin said.
“The flowers really brightened our day, picnic table and my cousin’s kitchen.”
Ms Navin said random acts of kindness really make a difference to so many people.
“Every one of us smiled and since coming back to Sydney, I have told workmates and friends and they have all thought the project was fantastic,” she said.
“It got me thinking, what can I do now for someone else?
“So this morning I put a flower on my neighbour’s front door step; not as artistic or creative as the bouquet, but I know she would have smiled when she opened the door,” said Ms Navin.
The Redlands Floral Art Club’s 28 members buy and arrange the flowers before dropping them off around the Redlands.
The bouquets are tagged with a note that explains the concept.
Club treasurer Val Decker said they had received wonderful responses from people who had found flowers.
“There were many people who were having a difficult time, either with losing a loved one or being ill, and the flowers made their day,” she said.
“Some bouquets had a wonderful adventure; finding the flowers in Lota, taken by bike to Birkdale, then by car to Cleveland and then onto the water taxi to Stradbroke Island.”
