Parramatta Eels winger Semi Radradra returns to Australia with Jarryd Hayne

The mystery surrounding the future of Semi Radradra became slightly clearer on Thursday night when the Parramatta winger arrived back in Sydney from Fiji on the same flight as Rio Olympic hopeful Jarryd Hayne.

On arrival, Radradra was met by police and escorted out a back door.

NSW Police issued a statement shortly after 3am on Friday morning confirming they had charged a 24-year old man "following investigations into reports of domestic violence."

"He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was questioned in relation to three allegations of domestic violence that occurred in 2014 and 2015."

"As a result of investigations the man was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm domestic violence and two counts of common assault domestic violence."

"The man was also served with an apprehended violence order.

"He was given conditional bail and will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday 5 July 2016," the statement said.

It had been revealed earlier this week Radradra's former partner, Perina Ting, applied for an Apprehended Violence Order against him.

Ting filed a video report with police alleging she had been assaulted on multiple occasions over an eight-month period beginning in September 2014.

While Radradra returned from his leave of absence to take part in Parramatta's training session on Friday morning, Hayne had been granted leave of his own from the Fiji Sevens squad to treat a niggling injury he picked up during the team's Olympic selection camp.

Hayne said he had no doubt his friend would stay at Parramatta, despite reports heavily linking him with a move to French rugby. "Oh for sure," Hayne said at Sydney Airport.

"He'll definitely stay at Parramatta. He's back here now, so he's obviously back at Parra and back playing. I spoke to him and, you know, from all accounts, you know, he's come back here and playing on the weekend."

Fiji team manager Rob Kauvesi told Fairfax Media Hayne was on leave for the weekend to visit family in Sydney. "He has been training hard the past three weeks," Kauvusi said. "[He is due] back in camp on Monday. Good time for him as well to visit his medical team and iron out his niggles while he is there."

Earlier, Eels coach Brad Arthur said he had been planning to play Radradra against the Sharks on Saturday despite the one training session. "The players and the coaching staff are glad to see him back," Arthur said.

"We look forward to seeing him at training tomorrow and putting in a strong performance for us on Saturday night."

Despite the timing, Hayne is believed to be intent on fulfilling his Olympic dream and isn't returning home to sign a deal with the blue and golds for the remainder of the season. However, the Eels have stepped up plans to lure Hayne back to the club in 2017, with interim Eels boss Ian Schubert indicating to Radradra that he would play with Hayne if he stayed at the club.

Hayne has also previously said his priority is to return to the Eels if he comes back to the NRL. The former San Francisco 49ers running back posted a tweet using an app to swap his face with Radradra: "Big Bula from everyone back home. On my way home, see yers all soon. Just went on a holiday. What's everyone carrying on for?"

Hayne recently joined the Fijian rugby sevens team in the hope of representing his father's homeland at the Rio 2016 Olympics next month.

Radradra had avoided returning from his club-granted leave to his homeland, missing a number of deadlines, which were subsequently extended.

The furore initially developed around reports the NRL's 2015 top try-scorer was considering a code switch to French rugby. The Australian representative missed deadlines on Monday and Wednesday, which despite assurances from his manager George Christodoulou, placed doubt over whether he would return at all.

In other Parramatta news, the club is finalising contract extensions for hooker Isaac De Gois and forward Danny Wicks. Both were off contract and De Gois had previously raised concerns he could be squeezed out of the Eels. However, the parties have now agreed to terms.

"I'm pretty much done, [for] a couple of years," said De Gois, who also fielded interest from the English Super League.

"I'm very happy. I'm pretty sure I'll be done by then, very happy to be staying here.

"I love the club, the coaching staff are great and it's always a pleasure waking up and training with the boys."

Asked if he had any qualms about re-signing given the constant dramas, the veteran Portuguese international said: "No, never. We're footy players, we play footy. I know what the boys and the club are like and I'm happy to be part of it for the next couple of years."
