Was Jack Silvagni's AFL debut against Collingwood on election day planned for some time or will this go down as one of the great coincidences in footy?
Those with a sharp eye for history may remember that a spectacular moment by his father, Stephen, on the field happened against the Magpies on the same date; the champion full-back soared over his opponent and took a great grab.
The year was 1988 and that specky was achieved in front of a bumper crowd of 72,906 at the MCG. Silvagni's opponent Craig Starcevich provided the perfect launch pad for the the Blue's eye-catching mark at centre-half-back.
However, few would remember that that great grab was pulled from the sky on July 2. Yes, that's right, Saturday, July 2, 28 years ago.
The coincidences do end there, however, as that game at the home of footy was part of round 14 in 1988.
And Carlton fans you may not want a repeat at The G on Saturday night. Twenty eight years ago Collingwood took away the four points with a 23-point victory. But the Blues did knock them off when it counted more, later that year in the finals.
