After a slow start due to a cold snap, voting got under way across Redland City, where more than 87,000 are on the roll.
The majority of volunteers at booths, from Mount Cotton to Capalaba, all said most voters knew who they were going to vote for.
Volunteers at all seven booths the Redland City Bulletin visited reported good behaviour, despite squabbles about how to mark a senate card at the Cleveland pre-polling booth during the week. There were also a few snags and rolls at some of the booths – and not just those you squirt tomato sauce on. At Birkdale South the school’s front gate was padlocked so voters jumped the fence.
It was one of the busiest booths and there were more than 20 people in the line-up.
Birkdale State School also attracted similar crowds.
Funniest video today was made by the volunteers at the Cleveland District State High School who joked about trying to give their how to vote cards to other volunteers.
The first report for the day came in from Coochiemudlo Island, where voting kicked off to a strong start at 8am where it was a chilly 10C.
Voters at Capalaba State College stopped and listened as a fun ALP candidate Kim Richards used a water bottle to do a mock interview about the events of the day with supporter Tony Sweet.
