The Russell Island Stingrays Junior Rugby League Football Club travelled to the mainland on the weekend.
The Stingrays Under 9s had tough opponents playing the Logan Brothers. Courageous efforts were performed by Malcolm Wilmott to score three tries and Mikey Maxwell, one. They were also high on the tackle count, but Rhylee Searle was the highest defence achiever.
Ball distributors Archie Moore and Connor McClurg were effective particularly in the latter part of the contest. Tyhler Searle, Nathaniel Hoppo and Tyler Crowther had great games consistently halting the Brothers’ progress.
Stingrays Under 11 players Jonathan JT Turnbull and Max Wilmott teamed up with the Capalaba Warriors. The compilation Stingrays and Warriors overpowered the Mustangs 38-34. Wilmott scored a vital try and conversion goal. Both players along with Lachlan Searle are doing superb playing alongside the Warriors.
The Under 9s will play their last game of the season on Sunday July 31 at 10:45am, defending their home turf on Russell Island against the Straddie Sharks.
