SEVEN Point Lookout Surf Life Saving Club members made the podium at the Queensland State Pool Rescue Championships on the Gold Coast recently.
Many of the competitors also managed to record their personal bests.
Standout competitors were Callum Brennan and Jayden Robinson who won gold in the under 12 line throw.
Callum, together with Fraser Toon, had to settle for silver after missing another first in the under 12/13 patient tow relay by hundredths of a second.
In the under 15 age group, Hayley Robinson and Charlotte Healy came second in the line throw event, while Lilly Morris and Carly Nash won the bronze medal in the under 14 line throw.
Competitors at the pool rescue championships take the skills they learn at the beach and modify them for still water rescue.
This includes swimming to retrieve a patient and long distances races with obstacles.
Other events, not seen on the beach, are the brick carry, where a swimmer is required to retrieve a brick or manikin from the bottom of the pool and swim back to safety with it. This represents the recovery of a patient.
The line throw event requires competitors to throw a rescue line or rope to a patient 10 metres away and pull the patient back to the edge of the pool to simulate a rescue.
Several Point Lookout club competitors will compete at the Australian Pool Rescue Championships on the Gold Coast from August 5 to 7.
