THE mighty North Stradbroke Island Sharks have taken on the Kingaroy Red Ants at Suncorp Stadium.
Four under 8’s junior rugby league teams ran out ahead of the Broncos, making their debut at Suncorp Stadium in front of a roaring Brisbane crowd.
The Slater and Gordon Broncos Mini-League experience gave junior teams from around Queensland the opportunity to play on the same turf as their sporting idols.
The North Stradbroke Island Sharks and the Kingaroy Red Ants went into battle before the Brisbane Broncos took on the Penrith Panthers.
Brisbane Broncos chief executive Paul White said the Slater and Gordon Broncos Mini-League was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
White said the kids took to the field like true rugby league stars, playing at Suncorp in front of their family, friends and a cheering crowd.
“The mini-league experience gives junior players the opportunity to play in a world class stadium where over 1 million people attend events each year,’’ White said.
Slater and Gordon general manager Karen Simpson said the firm was proud to be a part of the junior league.
Simpson said it was good for junior players to be able to play at Suncorp and have their own 15 minutes in the spotlight.
“Slater and Gordon are proud to be a part of the Mini-League experience, encouraging the younger generations to pursue their sporting dreams,’’ she said.
The teams treated the event as a fun game and no scores were kept.
