ELLA-Maree Watkins is getting in for her chop, literally.
She is organising The Chop charity event in which funds and awareness will be raised for the Cancer Council.
Ms Watkins said 17 girls from Ormiston College would have 20cm or more of their hair cut.
The hair will be donated for wig making for cancer sufferers.
"This year, the event will consist of 17 girls cutting 20cm plus of their hair to donate to wigs and a number of boys willing to wax their legs, all in an attempt to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council,'' Ms Watkins said.
The event will be held on Sunday August 7 at 3.30pm at the Raby Bay Marina, next to Hog's Breath Cafe with hairdressers from The Lounge & Co hair dressing salon at Ormiston helping out.
"In less than two weeks we have raised over $1500 with our ultimate goal being $5000,'' Ms Watkins said
A group of school girls began the event last year during which they raised funds for chairs for the Redlands Hospital.
Ms Watkins said doing The Chop event was a good way of getting community support, raising awareness of cancer and continuing the event.
"All proceeds raised are going to the Cancer Council and we are planning to send the hair to the Little Princess Trust in the UK,'' she said.
Hair is made into wigs for people who have been impacted as a result of cancer treatments or other illnesses.
Hair must be at least 20cm long, be washed, dried and braided or put in a ponytail before cutting. Hair treated with dyes is not suitable nor are floor sweepings.
