The Queensland government will learn how best to re-shape it's taxi industry and address the changes wrought by Uber by the weekend - but those who have a stake in it will still be kept in the dark.
In response to mounting public and industry pressure, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk brought forward the final 'Opportunities for Personalised Transport' review from August to July.
Commissioned in October 2015, the review has been charged with recommending a roadmap for the government on how best to deal with ride-sharing services encroaching in the transport space held by taxis.
Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe told his budget estimates hearing on Thursday that the report was on track to be handed down by Sunday.
But the government won't release it publicly until it has considered its own response, preferring to release both the report and how it plans to respond to it at the same time.
When that will happen is anyone's guess, with Mr Hinchliffe only committing to "very soon".
"It is something that we want to be doing in a prompt way," he said. "We know that there are significant expectations out there in the community.
"This is part of the reason the premier expressed her desire to the OPT review for the matter to be brought forward and for the final review to come to government by the end of July.
"This still leaves us in the framework where the broader expectation had been about an outcome in the context of August this year.
"I think that works for us."
Parliament does not resume until August 16, gifting the government three cabinet meetings to discuss it.
In the mean time, the Transport Department has stepped up its policing of services such as Uber, following a move by the Katter Party to increase penalties on those found to be driving for the service, ending in a compromise to instead further crack down using existing penalties.
